Norwegian Cross-Laminated Timber from Splitkon

Cross-laminated timber consists of cross-laminated layers of timber lamellas, or boards, which are assembled into solid elements. Cross-laminated timber can be produced in various thicknesses, from three layers upwards, depending on the application and functions required.

We can manufacture elements from 6 cm to 36 cm thick, and they can be from 2.4×6 metres up to 3.5×16 metres (For rendered surfaces: maximum width 3.2 m).

We use lamellas that are cross-laid at 90 degrees to each other, with adhesive between each layer. The lamellas are then pressed together to form a large, solid panel.

We use Norwegian spruce that has been dried and strength graded according to our requirements. This comes from sawmills within a radius of approximately 200 kilometres from the factory.

Cross-laminated timber elements provide a highly stable building component with excellent stiffness and load-bearing capacity. CLT manufactured with MUF adhesive offers significant fire resistance and an effective moisture-stabilising function when the elements are exposed to interior environments.

A sustainable choice as timber inherently has no negative impact on the environment. It also creates a healthy indoor environment as exposed timber in buildings gives people a special sense of well-being.

We have our own laboratory used for testing and analysis. Here we check, amongst other things, that the timber has the correct quality upon arrival. Every single board is measured for moisture content at our facility.

At the start of our production line, the timber is monitored so that an additional check can be made to remove any defects where necessary. In accordance with our technical approval, we test both finger joints and finished elements daily to verify that they meet the requirements for strength and delamination.

We deliver modern building systems in cross-laminated timber and glued laminated timber for commercial buildings, offices, agricultural buildings, housing, flats, schools, halls and cabins, amongst others

One cubic metre of CLT binds approximately 800 kilograms of CO2. By comparison, the same quantity of concrete produces CO2 emissions of 385 kilograms.
